Kicking off week 2 of the chakra series, we are going to dive right into the sacral chakra! Are you guys ready to talk about sex? That’s what this chakra is all about!
I’m only kind of kidding. While the sacral chakra is responsible for our sexuality it also controls who we are. It is essentially the “core” of our personality. The sacral chakra, or Svadhisthana, is translated to mean “your own place.” It’s most closely associated with the element of water.
Located 3 inches below your belly button, this chakra regulates one’s emotional, creative and sexual energy. Think passion, pleasure and sensuality. The sacral chakra’s mantra is “VAM.” Like we talked about in the previous article, the vibration of this mantra matches the vibration of the chakra.
When the sacral chakra is out of balance, you have trouble feeling comfortable with yourself. You don’t feel “at home.” You are lacking in the passion department and have intimacy issues. If you have a blockage, your sensuality could be non-existent while if the svadhisthana is overactive you are always raring to go. See, I told you we were talking sex today!
If any of the above sounds like you, don’t worry, you’re not alone. This chakra is super easy to fall out of balance but the good news is that there are lots of ways to fix it and most of them are pretty fun! The sacral chakra doesn’t just regulate our sexuality and “you-ness.” It’s also in control of the bladder, reproductive system, bowels, lower intestines and adrenal glands. It regulates the pleasure in our bodies. Get your minds out of the gutter friends, I’m talking pleasure through all the senses! Taste, touch, visual, auditory.
When in balance you are more open and really experience the world around you. People with blockages are codependent with the people in their lives but are also prone to substance addiction. Their emotions are either constantly on overhaul or they experience a numbness to the world.
Are you ready for the fun part? I did tell you this was going to be fun, right? Now we are going to move to the section of this article that talks about how to balance your sacral chakra.
Fun part #1: Identify your sexual blockages and open yourself up to new experiences- *wink wink.* In laymens terms guys, this means HAVE SEX! I’m not a very subtle person and I want you guys to picture me jumping up and down in front of you, screaming the dirty “S” word. SEX! Yes, I know this seems so simple and for some maybe it is but for those who have an underactive sacral chakra, it’s really not. And ladies and gents I have BEEN there (just ask my husband LOL). So I get it and I’ve experienced that feeling when you come home from a long day of work and then have to make dinner and get the kids to bed and all you want to do is go to sleep yourself, but there is your partner giving you sad, puppy dog eyes when you get in bed. This is your opportunity, friends. Instead of sighing and turning your back, try giving in! Try adding something new to get you in the mood or place some of the essential oils listed below on your inner thighs but by God girl, get you some!
Fun part #2: Let your emotions out and let them run wild and free, dear readers. Jump, scream, laugh until you cry or cry until you laugh! Yes, you may look like a crazy person and I’m envisioning you with mascara running down your faces while laughing maniacally on the subway. But WHO CARES! That’s the point I’m trying to make here. Let yourself fully “feel the feels” and process them instead of suppressing them; this is the key. Not worrying about the judgments of other people is one of the most truly freeing and empowering experiences and I want all of you to feel this. It’s hard, so hard, and Alexis and I struggle with this too but I promise you it’s worth it. I can’t tell you the amount of times I’ve publicly embarrassed myself and I’m sure will continue to over the course of my life. Goodness I’m cringing as I write this thinking about my mom, or dear Lord in heaven, my Father reading this article while I scream at you guys to have sex. But here I am because I want everyone to feel this liberated. So try taking it in baby steps and dance in your underwear around the kitchen or or make eye contact and give a smile to the person passing by you. Build your confidence and never look back.
Fun part #3: To be fair, this step really isn’t fun but it’s necessary not only to balance your sacral chakra but also to progress as a person. Learn to let go. I know, I can literally hear your eyes rolling back in your head. But guys this is SO important. By letting go of the negative you are making room for more of the positive. I’ll give you an example. On my way to work everyday I drive through a roundabout. I typically don’t have any problems and most of the time people are just as polite as I am but every once in a while there is that one asshole. You know, that person that sees you but doesn’t stop and forces you to slam on your brakes because they are so impatient that they cut you off.. Only to get one (one!) flipping car in front of you. That crap makes my blood boil and situations like these used to literally ruin my whole day. But why? Why did I let that one experience ruin a completely good day? Because I didn’t know how to let go. This is a hard pill to swallow. It’s one thing to read about letting go but a whole different kind of ballgame to actually do it. This is not an overnight process either. You need to learn your triggers and patterns which means really showing up and paying attention to the things going on in your life. It means recognizing when you are running through bad thought patterns and rewiring your brain to think more positive thoughts. It means putting the work in now to give yourself a more positive future and open yourself up to make space for more positive vibrations in your sacral chakra.
There are some other ways to balance your sacral chakra which I’m going to list below. You can use these in conjunction with the above “fun parts” or you can do them individually. The awesome part about chakra and energy work is that there is no right way to do anything. This is such a deeply personal experience and you are on an adventure my friends, so embrace it and get creative!
Meditation: Yes, you guessed it. You can do this the same way as written in the previous article about the root chakra but instead of red, you are going to picture an orange ord. If you haven’t read our root article, check it out here!
Nutrition: Add more orange foods into your diet! Add more orange into your wardrobe too. Alexis loves this color but not a solid orange, more of a translucent one.
Essential Oils: Ginger, orange, jasmine, neroli, rosewood, bergamot
Crystals: Carnelian, orange calcite, jasper, moonstones, and amber
Yoga poses: Cobra, butterfly, camel, goddess, reverse warrior, pigeon

As always friends, thank you for taking the time to read my ranting. I truly hope you find it enlightening and I want you to know that you are most likely not the only crazy person crying on the subway. Embrace it!
